Project HOPE UK’s radical new signature programme, The Thoughtful Path: Munsieville,
has launched with a full replica if the World Cup with children as the stars. 32
teams competed, each representing one of the World Cup teams until, in the 64th game,
“Germany” lifted the trophy!
After years of planning and consultation, Project HOPE UK’s new “signature programme” launches in the township of Munsieville, near Johannesburg, on 12 June, with the biggest celebration in the community since the end of apartheid, sixteen years ago.
Named “The Thoughtful Path: Munsieville” the ten year initiative draws together an international partnership with one clear focus - to create a new “gold standard” for the long-term community-based care of orphans and other vulnerable children, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to emerge as a healthy, productive adult.
Over 65 percent of the children in Munsieville live in slum shacks, facing a daily struggle against the impact of poverty-driven threats to their health and well-being:The Thoughtful Path: Munsieville, harnesses the skills and energy of the entire community, served by an international network, to address not just the effects of ill-health, but the root causes.
The Munsieville International Children’s Cup is being organised to launch the project, focusing on children as champions. It also highlights sport as one of seven core service “hubs”, set to transform the community over the next ten years.
