Project HOPE is gearing up for the long road of recovery in Haiti.
Ruth Madison, a member of the Project HOPE team, knows the Haitian people well.
After several trips there, she has come to know them as warm and caring people, but after the violent earthquake, they are a people who need our help.
"Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. It was already a challenging situation for most people there," explains Madison. "With the earthquake it has now moved to precarious, so it's pretty challenging," adds Madison.
Project Hope is sending volunteers this week as part of their first level assessment.
"We'll be looking at our initial response to the earthquake and then evaluating the long-term relief needs and development the programs that will be needed. Project Hope has experience in rehabilitation programs. We executed programs in China, Armenia, and Kosovo after those earthquakes and we are looking to do similar programs in Haiti," describes Madison.
Project HOPE will dedicate resources to ensure that the littlest victims, children, are quickly cared for.
Project HOPE plans to work with its partner organisations that are in the UK, America and Haiti to ensure that the victims of this devastation are given the opportunity to do far more than just survive.
